Easter and the Woods

-An Easter feast of ham and polish sausage...

- ...you name it fresh baked breads...

-All the goodies for the end (or beginning).
-Especially Grandma's tea ring. It can really only be made by her.

-And then a lovely little trip to the Woods restaurant. This is a procuitto, mozzarella, heirloom tomato salad with cantelope.

-A very nice french onion soup.
-Veal schnitzel with warm potato salad.
-And to end "Katie's Gingerbread" with lemon icing.

Puerto Rico

-Our first local meal was from this place, which is a bit of everything for people in the Toro Negro.

-And this is it - pork, chicken, ribs, bacon and pork with beans, tostones (flattened fried plantain) and something looking very slimy and fishy, but really was yucca and garlic and amazing!

-We also had as many rainforest bananas as we wanted. Raynar called them 200% organic, meaning not only did he not use any chemicals to raise them, he didn't even raise them; they just came out of the rainforest.

-We ate at Cana in Old San Juan.

-It was warm, esp. for us Michiganders, so Sandy got us started on Sangrias.

-And I got tostones again.
-Michelle got a quesadilla with guacamole, cream and black beans.

-Sandy got the special meat wrapped in bacon and with a wine reduction sauce.
-Peggy and I got this chicken and monfongo. Turns out the chicken was only slightly warped wienerschiztnel, but the monfongo (actually yuccafongo) was mixed with garlic and other spices and quite delicious.
-Sandy and I got non-alcoholic frozen drinks (hot, hot, hot!) in Arecibo. Nothing exciting really, but cool cups, eh?
-I had really wanted to go to the Tacomaker, since it seemed like a local fast food place. Not great, but very few other places to stop for a quick bite.
-Home of slow service, hump trays and GIGANTIC avalanches...as demonstrated by Michelle.

Tidbits

-A wonderful, and unexpected, mexican meal at a place in Monroe, MI. Complete with tamales!
-A great meal in Chicago at a Thai restaurant. Dave's main dish.

-My curry chicken and something...very good.

-The appetizers of potstickers. I think we got these for free because we were taking pictures. Maybe thought we were critics? So, taking pictures of food DOES help...!!!

Dutch Baby

-After two years after being introduced this wonderful food, I finally tried to make it and succeeded! A lovely little pancake/popover, supposedly from Germany (Deutsch?)...a Dutch Baby.
-Traditionally served with lemon juice and powdered sugar (definately my way to eat it), but with others things like fruit.
